What we think: This basic Yamaha, made in Indonesia, has a very thin tone in our opinion. We recommend either going up range to a Yamaha U1 or buying a Wendl and Lung 121, or second hand top quality English or Scandanavian piano. These start from about £1800. For £2500 or more you can also get a far superior used Yamaha U1 or U3.
If you're buying a small piano then a used Knight K10 or K20, Fazer or a Yamaha made from 1965 to 1980 has a far richer tone than a new Yamaha of this height, is more stable and will cost considerably less. Please see our stocklist for examples. What Yamaha say: A piano is so much more than a musical instrument. It becomes part of your life and, well chosen, will be with you for life. Yamaha have been making pianos for over a century but the new B-Series is something of a departure for us. A hundred years of accumulated knowledge has been condensed into our most affordable piano ever. No corners have been cut. No compromises made in materials or workmanship. We simply set out to design a fully featured Yamaha piano but at a lower price. And we succeeded. The B-Series, like all Yamaha pianos, are instruments of extraordinary, natural beauty, combining art, craftsmanship and technology; a joy to play and own.
With its larger dimensions and heavier construction, the new B2 delivers a superior sound through added depth and volume. Front and rear castors enhance movability while the elegantly detailed, traditional cabinetry ensures that the B2 looks right at home in your living space. For the more serious pianist, B2 is the perfect combination of performance and affordability.
