Grotrian Steinweg is a major manufacturer maker of high quality pianos. Most Grotrian Steinweg pianos in the UK date from 1890 to 1930. All well made, but often very worn and need extensive reconditioning. Grotrian uprights from about 1910 to 1940 outstanding. Rating is for fully reconditioned pianos. Unreconditioned ones may carry a very low rating.
Brief information on Grotrian Steinweg pianos available in the UK:
Traditional uprights from 1910 to 1940: These are in our opinion and among the finest upright pianos ever made, and we try to have one or two in stock at all times. They are from 120cm to 130cm high. They have a unique warm subtle tone and fine touch.
Older Grotrian Steinweg grand pianos: very finely made; most date from 1885 to 1930.
Modern Grotrian upright pianos: very few used ones available in the UK; usually excellent
Modern Grotrian grand pianos: Some are outstanding, less powerful than Steinway but very subtle in tone. Grotrian also make a fine concert grand.
