Roberts Pianos - Bluthner style 7 grand, restringing

Restoring a Blüthner style 7 Grand piano - work in progress

Page updated 10th May 2007

Before restoration work - assessing the piano.
The piano undergoes a thorough examination to make sure it is suitable for restoring. Particular attention is given to see whether the soundboard has kept its shape. If the "crown" is lost, then it is necessary to remove the soundboard and restore or replace it.

The soundboard is sanded and shimmed to repair any cracks before being re-finished.

Soundboard re-finished with humidity resistant varnish.

The Frame is refinished with best quality metal paint and lacquered. New Blüthner blue felts are put in place

The piano is restrung with German Röslau steel wire.
